Cockburn City have guaranteed their NPL WA safety thanks to a 1-0 victory over Perth Glory at E&D Litis Stadium on Sunday.

Hasani Sinclair scored the winning goal in the 59th minute when he collected a short pass from Daniel Robinson, turned his defender and fired low past the diving Nicholas Specca in the Glory goal and into the bottom right-hand corner.

With two matches remaining Cockburn are now seven points above Stirling Lions, who occupy the sole relegation berth.

The result ended a run of no wins in seven for the Cockerels, who will be happy to have steadied the ship after their late season slump.

Sinclair was lively throughout and had the best chance of the first half but lacked the composure following Luke Bodnar’s mistake.

On the same weekend 12 months ago, in the penultimate round of the season, Glory were just seconds from winning the league when they conceded an injury time goal to Cockburn and had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Their loss to Subiaco a week later allowed Perth SC to steal the title.

Perth are again champions but Glory have not figured this year. They can still make the top four but it’s unlikely and it will be interesting for fans to see how many of their NPL squad can figure in the club’s 2019-20 A-League campaign.
