Bayswater City scored three goals in the first half on their way to a convincing 3-0 win over Inglewood United at Frank Drago Reserve.

The result moves the hosts above their opponents in the NPL WA on goal difference and continues a recent run of three wins in their last four games in all competitions.

Inglewood drop down to seventh but are only two points off the top four, having suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time in the league this year.

The visitors weren’t without their chances throughout as Chok Dau stung the palms of Devon Spence inside the opening 10 minutes.

But it was route one football that gave Bayswater the lead as Ryan Pearson played a ball over the top for Gordon Smith, who broke the offside trap and slotted in to end a run of three games without a goal.

Bayswater doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Giordano Colli started and finished a move after winning the ball in midfield, feeding Smith, and then finishing at the second attempt for 2-0.

Inglewood continued to press forward with desperate defending from Tong and Pearson denying Brian Woodall and then Dau in the area.

They should have pulled one back when Brent Griffiths lost his footing on the edge of the area, but Woodall rushed his effort and curled wide of Spence’s post.

And United were made to pay for that miss when Pearson played in Kenny Keogh, who managed to find the far corner from a tight angle.

Inglewood came out firing in the second half but as the rain continued to get heavier, the quality in the final third wouldn’t come despite long periods in Bayswater territory.

Dau and Woodall exchanged passes in the area, before Dau’s shot was blocked, and then Jason Barrera’s drive was beaten away by Spence.

Keogh nearly added a fourth late on but he couldn’t capitalise on Colli’s cut-back, as Bayswater position themselves for an assault on the top four and a Belt Up Cup semi-final against Rockingham next Sunday.
