Super Harmer leads Rocky to first win

Report by Kelechi Osunwa

Rockingham City captain James Harmer put in a clinical performance as the club celebrated their first NPL WA fixture at SafeRad Stadium with a thumping 5-0 win over Stirling Lions.

The result moved Rockingham off the foot of the table at Stirling's expense.

Rockingham had lost their first three matches, all away from home, but were out of the blocks early and could have taken the lead in the first minute but Harmer was denied by Lions keeper Ryan Montgomery.

However they opened their account for the season when Harmer, James Millard and Sam McKearnan combined for McKearnan to drill a low effort into the bottom left-hand corner.

From then it was the James Harmer show.

He grabbed his first from the penalty spot after he had been brought down, drilling his effort right down the middle.

Rockingham went into the break 2-0 up and made it 3-0 when Harmer raced onto a clearance and kept his composure to effectively end the game as a contest.

Harmer wasn’t done and claimed the match ball after an intricate combination with Millard.

Just as the game was petering out, Millard grabbed a goal to go with his two assists with an arrowed effort from outside the area to cap a five-star performance from the hosts.
