Millard double for dominant Bayswater

Football West News

Bayswater City got the 2019 NPL WA season up and running with a comfortable 3-0 win at Inglewood United on Friday night.

Two goals from Ross Millard and a Daryl Nicol penalty ensured Bayswater came away with the victory their first half performance deserved.

Millard got the opener when he slid in at the far post to meet Nicol's delicious right wing cross on eight minutes.

The second came 10 minutes later. Striker Kenny Keogh, returning to the club he left pre-season, had already endured one heavy tackle when he received an arm to the back of the head during an aerial challenge. Nicol struck the penalty past Alex Dunn despite the keeper guessing the right way.

At that stage Inglewood were struggling, not surprisingly considering coach Andres Oliveira took over only this week. Steve Sokol still should have pulled one back before half time but he allowed himself to be dispossessd. However there were signs of encouragement for Inglewood who improved markedly in the second half.

But their inability to score was punished when Bayswater hit them on the break 19 minutes from time. Nicol was again involved, feeding Millard to fire home.

Inglewood's miserable night was confirmed after they were awarded a late penalty. Young substitute Sam Riak took the responsibility but his effort down the middle was kept out by the right boot of keeper Devon Spence.
