Tanevski stars as Stirling beat Balcatta

Report by Blayne Treadgold

Alex Tanevski netted a brilliant hat-trick as Stirling recorded a 3-1 win over local rivals Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

The young striker scored after 10 minutes before scoring twice in the second half to help the visitors respond perfectly to last week's drubbing at Cockburn.

Balcatta remained a point above Mandurah on the league ladder, but the day was all about Stirling’s Tanevski who paid tribute to his coach Rob Milevski.

“It feels very good as Rob showed faith in me during the week,” he said.

“It was a good hard fought win and it was good to bounce back and prove to the fans and the league that we aren’t a side that mucks around.

“All season long Rob and the coaching staff have been pushing us and always believing in us.”

Milevski was delighted with the result and praised Tanevski in return.

“I thought we started positively, created a lot of chances and could have been up with a few more goals at half time,” he said.

“We killed the game off with the second and third goal and Alex was brilliant up top for us today.”

Balcatta had the opening few chances of the match but failed to capitalise and Tanevski made them pay as he got on the end of a pinpoint cross from Daniel Micevski to head home.

Stirling captain Milorad Vujacic had a golden chance to extend the lead in the 23rd minute but failed to get his foot to a tap-in.

Balcatta goalkeeper Domenico Savoldelli was busy throughout the first half and did well to keep the hosts in the game at half time.

Tanevski doubled his tally on 52 minutes as he lobbed Savoldelli brilliantly to record his brace and also double his side’s advantage.

The striker was too hot for the Balcatta defence to handle in the 74th minute after a persistent solo effort saw him battle through and get a shot past Salvoldelli to complete his hatrick.

Justin Onek netted a late consolation for the hosts as he ghosted in to head home but it was too little, too late.

Balcatta captain Calum O’Connell acknowledged that his young side have got a tough challenge in a bid to maintain their top flight status.

“Silly errors have cost us all season, we’ve had our chances,” he said.

“We’ve got a very young team, we’re learning every week but in this league you have to put points on the table.

“We’ve got two more games left, a tough one next week against Inglewood and then Mandurah on the final day. Who knows what could happen.”
