All square at Ashfield

Report by Ryan Borrett

Missed opportunities for both Perth Glory and Armadale led to a 0-0 draw at Ashfield Arena on Saturday in round 14 of the PS4NPLWA.

Armadale were given a penalty in the 41st minute with a clumsy challenge by Perth Glory defender Walter Scott on Armadale’s Dylan White.

Billy Quinncroft held the responsibility of giving his side the lead from the spot, but his effort to the bottom left was brilliantly saved by Jackson Lee.

Armadale coach John O’Reilly said he was disappointed with the missed chance to go ahead.

“When you get a penalty in a game you’d like to think that you’re at least going to go a goal ahead and make the opposition come at you.”

A tense battle continued in the second half with neither side able to break the deadlock, with both teams unlucky not to have grabbed a victory despite their efforts.

Perth Glory coach John Gibson took some positives his side’s performance.

“Did were capitalise on some opportunities and some half chances? Probably not. We kept a clean sheet, which is magnificent for a very young group,” he said after the game.

Perth Glory’s young side were largely in control during the first half up until the penalty, but couldn’t find a goal despite their attacking efforts.

Gibson praised Joseph Knowles performance who looked a constant threat going forward.

“He was outstanding. He’s leading a young group, and his willingness to work his backside off for the cause. You’ve got to give him credit.”

An early Glory header from striker Michael Domfeh was on target in the 13th minute, but was disallowed for offside.

Armadale started the second half much better than the first, and almost took the lead in the 50th minute after scrappy piece of defending gave Armadale’s Quinncroft a sight of goal but shot wide.

Armadale coach John O’Reilly felt his side should have gotten more from the match.

“That was always going to be a tight game. Not a great consolation, but we did get a point, which is more than we did last time,” he said.
