Perth target national success

Football West News

Champions Perth SC will aim for more success when they face Tasmania NPL side Devonport Strikers in the National Finals Series at E&D Litis Stadium on Saturday night.

Perth, who claimed the PS4 NPLWA league title in the last round of the season before edging Inglewood United to win The West Australian Top Four Cup, will use their winning momentum heading into the elimination clash.

Coach Ramon Falzon said his side remained focused on Devonport after celebrating double success.

“The boys deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve done this season,” he said.

“Particularly in the last month where it’s been tough, there’s been a rollercoaster of emotions but the players have kept fighting and they’ve been rewarded for it.”

Perth captain Clark Keltie said his side was confident of success despite knowing little about the Tasmanian champions

“Our club are on a massive high and with having home advantage regardless of who comes we can have a good crack at them,” Keltie said.

“There’s no fear and we have nothing to lose... we’re all looking forward to it and excited for the next challenge.”

Perth will aim to go one better than Bayswater City, who lost in last year’s National Finals Series grand final against NSW NPL side Blacktown City.

If Perth win, they will face the winner of Bentleigh Greens, from Victoria, and Northern New South Wales club Edgeworth in the semi-finals.

The host club will be determined by a points system described below.

Points system
• Win within regulation time = 3 points
• Win during extra time = 2 points
• Win on penalty shootout = 1 point
• Goals scored (excluding penalty shootouts) = 3 points
• Goals conceded (excluding penalty shootouts) = -1 point
• Yellow cards = -1 point
• Red cards = -3 points
