Robinson denies Glory victory

Report by Navrin Secker

NPL WA leading scorer Daniel Robinson earned Cockburn City a battling point in their clash against high-flying Perth Glory at Dalmatinac Park on Saturday afternoon.

Glory took the lead early in the second half courtesy of Daniel Stynes, before Cockburn fan favourite Robinson equalised in the 72nd minute.

It was reward for Cockburn's resilience after Glory had started the match strongly, controlling possession and looking the more dangerous side.

Full back Walter Scott had a good chance to put the visitors ahead when he got on the end of Stynes’ cutback, but his first-time effort sailed well over the crossbar.

Despite dictating the tempo, Glory struggled to create many clear-cut chances and went into the break level with Cockburn.

The visitors finally got their breakthrough when Trent Ostler dinked a ball to the back post, which was neatly headed home by an unmarked Stynes.

Perth looked dominant and could have extended their lead after two penalty appeals within minutes, but each time the referee waved play on.

Despite struggling throughout the match, Cockburn snagged a goal against the run of play courtesy of Robinson’s toe-poke past onrushing Glory goalkeeper Nicolas Specca.

Cockburn keeper Luke Radonich made a trio of important saves late in the half, including a superb reflex save to deny Jacob Italiano and ensure the matrch ended 1-1.
