Match wrap: Perth SC stay out in front

Football West News

Michael Domfeh and Gustavo Catarcione scored the goals that ensured Perth SC maintained a four-point advantage at the top of the NPL WA after eight rounds.

The reigning champions faced a tricky looking test away at Balcatta but they took only three minutes to go in front when Domfeh fired low into the corner from the edge of the box.

Catarcione doubled that lead before half time and although Perth SC had to play the final half-an-hour with 10 men following Rocco Pizzata’s second yellow card, the visitors saw out the game in relative comfort.

After losing second spot for 24 hours, Perth Glory reclaimed their position with a convincing 4-2 victory against Rockingham City on Sunday.

Glory were 4-0 up early in the second half, Walter Scott (2), Nick Walsh and Ethan Brooks all on target, before Riley van Dieken gave Rockingham some consolation with a late brace.

Floreat Athena are third following their impressive 3-1 defeat of Sorrento.

“We have a quality side,” Athena coach Garrett McDulling said after two first-half goals from captain Dean Evans and one after the break for Phillip Arnold sealed a third win in succession.

Inglewood United continued their bright start to the campaign with a 2-0 win over ECU Joondalup to move into fourth place.

Andres Oliveira acknowledged his side struggled to click against the injury-hit Jacks but they eventually broke through with a Chok Dau penalty. Milorad Vujacic added a second near the end.

It was the Daryl Nicol show at Frank Drago Reserve, where the Scot scored a hat-trick and helped set up the other three in Bayswater City’s 6-1 victory over bottom club Stirling Lions.

The result lifts Bayswater to fifth but it was a sixth loss for Stirling who already have a -19 goal difference.

The other match at Alfred Skeet Reserve saw Cockburn City win 1-0 at Armadale.

The hosts had their opportunities but could not finish, unlike City’s Jesse Lazzaro whose second-half effort decided the outcome.
