Catarcione leads Perth comeback against Subiaco

Perth SC’s Gustavo Catarcione inspired a come from behind 2-1 win against Subiaco at Rosalie Park on Saturday.

Kevin White had given Subiaco the lead in the 22nd minute but Cataricione fired back with two goals before the half-time break to seal the win.

Perth coach Ramon Falzon said Subiaco’s goal was a wake-up call.

“We reacted well after that shock,” he said. “But we made life complicated for ourselves.

“I am not happy with the way we played in the second half. We were too selfish and didn’t get the basics right. Too often, we didn’t stick to the plan.”

Subiaco took control in the opening minutes with Perth goalkeeper Francis Soale springing into action to deny Jackson Darnell.

The resulting corner was whipped in but James Casserly’s headed effort sailed over the bar.

The home team’s enthusiasm was rewarded when White received the ball from a cross into the box and his powerful volley left Soale stunned.

Subiaco’s lead was short-lived, however, with Catarcione levelling just three minutes later.

Dino Topcagic sent in a free-kick and Catarcione was on hand to convert on 25 minutes.

And the Perth marksman was on hand again in the 38th minute to put his side in the lead, firing past goalkeeper Ryan Montgomery.

Subiaco started the second-half with renewed spirit. Darnell was again denied by Soale and Lawson’s effort went wide.

Perth, too, had their chances with Tom King and Catarcione testing goalkeeper Montgomery.

The home team pushed for a late equaliser and in the dying minutes of the game, Soale denied White resulting in a corner.

Montgomery ran up to get in on the action and it was the keeper, who could have equalised but his header sailed wide.

Subiaco coach Michael Brazil said his side needed to learn from their mistakes.

“I think we did everything we had to do today,” he said.“But once again, we made two mistakes and that lead to two goals.

“We are not learning from our errors. I can only hope that we will learn now for our next games and stop making the same mistakes.”
