12 goals in two thrilling semis

Football West News

Stirling Lions will meet Bayswater City in the QBE Night Series Grand Final at nib Stadium on Saturday, March 12, after two thrilling semi-finals at Dorrien Gardens tonight.

Floreat Athena let slip a two-goal lead after having two men sent off to lose 3-2 to Stirling, and Bayswater won 4-3 against plucky Armadale, who had Alex Salmon to thank for a hat-trick.

Jon Stynes opened the scoring for Floreat from the penalty spot after 20 minutes and after goalkeeper Jason Saldaris was sent off Athena doubled their lead through a piece of Ludo Boi magic.

Phil Arnold’s dismissal left Floreat with only nine men and the Lions pulled back a goal through David Micevski’s free-kick. Stirling were level on the hour through Shane Cassidy and Micevski produced another curling free-kick to win it for Stirling.

Bayswater were made to work hard for their win but had looked to be cruising when goals from Gustavo Giron Marulanda and Hayden Doyle put them 2-0 up. After Salmon pulled a goal back, David Heagney increased Bayswater’s lead before Salmon added two more, including a penalty, to draw Armadale level.

But Brian Farrell fired home with eight minutes to play to ensure Bayswater progressed.
