Sorrento won the sixth annual Regional Festival Football clash 2-0 over Perth Glory in Busselton to go top of the NPLWA – Men’s competition.

Goals from Dean Cummings and Chris Jackson in the space of three first-half minutes sealed the deal for the Gulls and Saturday's win, combined with Bayswater's dropped points at Stirling, gives Trevor Morgan's side a one-point lead at the summit.

Sorrento didn't have it all their own way and it was Glory who started the sharper at Barnard Park. Keeper Patrick Hughes saved from Lucas Rossi and Ciaran Bramwell in the first half hour, then sprawled across his goal brilliantly to claw away Andrew Maranta's effort.

And the goalkeeper's interventions proved pivotal as Sorrento hit the front on 35 minutes. Jackson's cross from the right was teased into the six-yard box and Cummings arrived to poke home his second of the season.

Three minutes later it was 2-0. Joe Tweat's cross wasn't properly cleared by Glory's defence and Jackson was on hand to hammer home for the fifth time in his last three outings.

Alex Morgan finished from Ollie Annis' cross early in the second half, but the offside flag was raised as Sorrento set about finishing the game.

And ultimately two proved enough. Substitute Joseph Hobson came off the bench and tested Hughes from range late on, but no goal was forthcoming and Sorrento went top.

The Gulls were aided by Stirling Macedonia, who beat previous leaders Bayswater 1-0 to leapfrog their opponents into third and move a point behind Sorrento with a game in hand.

James Bosdet was in magnificent form early as he gloved Ndumba Makeche's curler wide, before saving at point-blank range from an arriving Kosta Sparta.

Stirling's best first half chance came when Asher Nelson was thwarted by Nic Speca, before Ian Ferguson's side broke through five minutes into the second half.

Alex Tanevski surged down the left and his effort was touched home by Jack Rycroft who scored for the first time since joining from Western Knights this off-season.

Bayswater's task of coming back was made tougher by a second yellow card for Sam Mitchinson on the hour. Gareth Naven's side couldn't find an equalised as their six-game unbeaten run ended, while Stirling won for the fifth time in six games this season.

Perth RedStar also jumped above Bayswater into second courtesy of a 93rd minute winner from Golden Boot leader Daryl Nicol in a 2-1 win over Balcatta.

Liam Murray tapped home Chok Dau's cross to bag his first for the season as RedStar hit the front, but bottom side Balcatta levelled midway through the second half thanks to Michael Scafetta's penalty.

But there would be late heartbreak for Balcatta who would lose for a sixth straight game. Dau back-heeled a second assist of the match as the hosts missed their chance to clear, and Nicol slotted home to continue his run of scoring in every round to make it 10 goals in seven games.

Meanwhile, Floreat Athena dropped out of the top four as they were held 1-1 by Inglewood United at E&D Litis Stadium.

Egide Ngendakumana opened the scoring after half-time with a crisp finish into the bottom corner, but Andres Oliveira's side were unable to hold onto the lead as they sit six points off the top four.

Jawad Rezai scored from the penalty spot with 12 minutes left, but their winless run now stretches to three and it doesn’t get easier next week for Athena with a trip to leaders Sorrento next week.

Elsewhere, there was a big win for Armadale as they moved well clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Gwelup Croatia.

Armadale got off to a perfect start in wet conditions at Alfred Skeet Reserve when Angel Andres headed in the opener after five minutes.

Rene Kisesa forced young goalkeeper Alex Fisher into a low save, but the home side doubled their lead just before the break when Adriano Jelenovic's shot wasn't claimed by Cyril Sharrock and Pieter Jacobsz arrived to follow in.

Gwelup had a point to prove though in search of their first win of the season and pulled one back almost immediately. Fisher, this time, was a long way out of his goal when meeting the ball and it eventually broke for Samuel Dweh to score into a vacant net.

Having had two players sent off last week at Cockburn, Armadale again made life hard for themselves when Cherno Bah was shown a second yellow card with 12 minutes left.

The visitors were unable to captialise though and were also reduced to 10 men when Rene Kisesa was shown a straight red card, as Gwelup's wait for their first win continued.

Finally, Cockburn City rescued a late point at home to Perth SC despite playing over an hour of the game with 10 men in a 1-1 draw.

Ben Radonich was shown a straight red for a last man challenge on Hasani Sinclair outside the area. Perth then seized the initiative eight minutes into the second half when Shubham Mokala's shot squeezed past back-up goalkeeper Ryan Barker from range.

Cockburn kept plugging away though and salvaged a draw with a minute to play as Milan Ognjenovic scrambled home to give Mirko Jelicic's a potentially important point. Perth, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first win of the campaign.

Results: Armadale 2-1 Gwelup Croatia, Balcatta 1-2 Perth RedStar, Cockburn City 1-1 Perth SC, Floreat Athena 1-1 Inglewood United, Sorrento 2-0 Perth Glory, Stirling Macedonia 1-0 Bayswater City.
