Super Sadie leaves it late

Report by Samuel Hays

Murdoch University Melville left it late before finding a winner against Northern Redbacks on Friday night as they took a major step towards becoming the first NPLWA Women's champions.

Sadie Lawrence scored the only goal in the 82nd minute to ensure MUM FC moved three points clear of title rivals Perth SC, who face Curtin University on Sunday.

Both teams struggled throughout the match to find an end product but it was MUM FC who created the majority of the chances and looked the more likely.

Katarina Jukic had an early opportunity when she got in behind the Redbacks defence and poked her shot beyond keeper Morgan Aquino but it trickled just wide of the post.

MUM FC had another good chance to take the lead just before the break as Charli Wainwright played a nice one-two with Jukic and saw her shot saved by Aquino.

After the break it looked like only a matter of time before MUM FC would take the lead, but Ellie La Monte and Stacey Learmont both failed to hit the target when given the opportunity.

Yet just as the clock was running down and Perth were about to take the title initiative, the ball fell to Lawrence inside the box and she turned and shot into the top corner to secure a massive three points for MUM FC.
