NTC to offer new test for MUM FC

Hyundai NTC head coach Ben Anderton goes up against some of his former players and his old No.2 Peter Rakic

It is being billed as experience against youth when Murdoch University Melville host Hyundai NTC tonight in the NPLWA Women’s match of the round.

MUM FC will be looking to move five points clear at the top of table with victory over the young talent of the NTC.

The game will also see NTC head coach Ben Anderton go up against many of the players he coached to the State Premier League title with Queens Park and his former No.2 Peter Rakic, who is now MUM FC’s head coach.

“I’ll love going up against Ben,” Rakic said. “I learned so much from him and have so much respect for him. It’s the same for the girls who played for him, too.

“A lot of what I learned moulded how I coach and now I’m taking it in my own direction.

“But come the match it’ll be full throttle. It’s their energy levels and football against our experience and know-how.”

Last week MUM FC were too good for one of their other rivals, Northern Redbacks, as Katarina Jukic and Ellie La Monte took their combined total this season to 12 goals in five games.

NTC know where the net is, too, as they displayed in Round Four when sticking six past Fremantle. With seven Junior and Young Matildas in their ranks, including Abbey Green and Leticia McKenna, NTC will be confident of matching their rivals’ firepower.

Tonight’s game at Murdoch University kicks off at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, Curtin University are at home to Subiaco. Neither side has won this term although both have gone close – Curtin conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to Perth SC last week while Subi did something similar to NTC in a previous round.

On Sunday, second-place Perth SC are home to Northern Redbacks and Balcatta face Fremantle City.

All of this weekend's matches will be live streamed on Football West's Facebook and YouTube pages.
