Football to remember Rod Banjac

Football in Perth will unite today to pay tribute to Dianella White Eagles head coach Rod Banjac.

There will be a minute’s silence at all Men’s NPL and State League first-team matches for Banjac, who died during the week.

Banjac also coached Forrestfield United to the NPL and both his former clubs and others have posted tributes on social media.

On the field in the NPL WA, Cockburn City will want to build on excellent back-to-back wins when they visit last season’s runners-up Inglewood United.

A late goal from Breckan Baker gave Cockburn a well-merited three points at Perth SC, which followed their brilliant comeback victory over Bayswater City.

The signing of Kristian Santich is a fantastic get for head coach Scott Miller. In the former Perth SC midfielder and Riley Woodcock, he has two players capable of creating plenty of chances as well as chipping in with their share of goals.

Inglewood have a win, a loss and a draw so far. Last week’s setback at Bayswater followed a dogged draw at Gwelup Croatia and a solid home win over ECU Joondalup.

Leaders Gwelup are enjoying a great start to their first season in the NPL WA. They go to Armadale, who are just a point behind after successive wins.

Floreat are currently second and will be favourites to pick up another three points at home to Rockingham, who are leaking goals at a worrying rate.

Former Perth Glory A-League head coach Kenny Lowe is up against his former club when his ECU Joondalup side face Glory’s NPL youngsters at 1620 Capital Stadium in Hartfield Park.

ECU put six past Sorrento last time out, while Glory were conceding four away to Gwelup.

Sorrento are at home to Bayswater, while Perth SC go in to their “Italian derby” at Balcatta in the unfamiliar position of second bottom.

All of today's NPL games will be live streamed on Football West's YouTube and Facebook pages.
