Domfeh double helps Perth SC thump Glory

Michael Domfeh scored a brace against his former club as Perth SC bounced back from their first league defeat of 2019 with a 5-0 win over 10-man Perth Glory at Dorrien Gardens.

It means the hosts extend their lead at the summit of the NPL WA to 10 points after Balcatta lost to Inglewood, while Glory slip out of the top four but remain within a win of post-season football going into the final seven rounds.

The visitors were behind inside three minutes when Domfeh broke away from Glory’s defence and Nick Walsh was unfortunate in turning the cross into his own net.

Despite the early setback Glory pushed the pace with Luke Salmon and Gomo Dukuly stretching the leaders back four. Jack Leech’s chip had Francis Soale backpedalling and Dukuly’s volley flew over the bar after a terrific turn around Tom Southgate.

At the other end, Perth tried to grab hold of the game as Catarcione’s drive was well held by Jackson Lee before Glory were reduced to 10-men on 39 minutes.

Walsh’s day went from bad to worse as he got himself in a tangle with Kristian Santich on the edge of the area and with no other defender between the centre-half and goal, referee Steven Gregory showed him red.

That could easily have dented Glory’s confidence but they nearly equalised in the shadows of half time when Trent Ostler cut inside and came close with a dipping effort.

Glory trailed by the solitary goal at the break but they were gradually pushed back by a Perth side buoyed by their extra player, and they doubled their lead with a second own goal.

This time, Catarcione made the running down the left, twisted his opposite marker inside and out before firing the ball into a crowded area with the final touch coming off Luca Bodnar.

Perth then added a third on the hour mark when Domfeh drove at Glory’s defence and even though he couldn’t round Lee, he kept his cool to rifle in a 10th NPL WA goal of the season.

Daniel Walsh entered the fray as Glory looked to shut up shop and they maintained a spirited showing with very little luck, until the final 10 minutes when the leaders struck twice more.

Matt Milenkovic broke down the right and pulled back for Frank Furfaro to whip into the top corner, before Domfeh got on the end of another sweeping move down the flank to add a fifth.

Ostler nearly grabbed a consolation goal at the death when he dragged an effort just wide, but Glory’s three match winning run at Dorrien Gardens ended as Perth marched clear.
