Robinson hat-trick as Cockburn beat Baysie

Football West News

Daniel Robinson’s superb hat-trick, including a contender for goal of the season, proved the difference as Cockburn City came out on top of a high quality encounter with Bayswater City 4-2.

Robinson struck in the 21st, 45th and 84th minutes to help the Cockerels avenge their recent FFA Cup loss to Baysie.

But it was his second goal right on half-time which brought Dalmatinac Park to its feet in this Round 11 clash.

Robinson collected a return pass from Reuben Tristao 30 yards from goal, had a touch to set himself up, before lashing a right-foot half-volley which dipped over Bayswater keeper Devon Spence and under the bar.

It was a stunning effort from the NPL WA’s top scorer, who had opened the scoring when he got on the end of Julian Teles’ angled long ball to bravely head past Spence.

Bayswater were behind for just five minutes. Jason Mirco’s corner was met by Gordon Smith, whose header fell kindly to Jack Allen and he gratefully fired his side level.

Bayswater came out after the break determined to get back on terms again. The impressive Mirco found Smith but the Scot’s mis-hit strike encapsulated his frustrating afternoon. Then Mirco forced keeper Luke Radonich to scramble to push clear and it looked only a matter of time before Bayswater would score.

But against the run of play Cockburn extended their lead. Hasani Sinclair took Riley Woodcock’s lovely lay-off in his stride and ran into the box before shooting low past Spence.

Back came Bayswater and Mirco got the goal his industrious display deserved following some neat link-up play with Smith.

However the visitors’ hard work was undone when Ryan Pratt was allowed to dribble into the area and Robinson swept home for his 10th goal of the season.

The result will delight Cockburn coach Scott Miller, who had seen his team throw away promising positions over the past fortnight.

But Bayswater coach Chris Coyne knows his side will have to defend much better when they take on unbeaten league leaders Perth SC in the FFA Cup on Monday.
