Robinson snatches dramatic point for City

Report by Navrin Secker

UPDATE: Cockburn City secured a 1-1 draw with ECU Joondalup at Dalmatinac Park on Saturday afternoon thanks to Daniel Robinson's goal five minutes into added time.

The Jacks opened the scoring courtesy of Tom Hough’s 62nd minute finish. But the visitors were unable to hold on to the win as Robinson headed home right on the final whistle.

A red card for Joondalup defender Shane Cassidy left them under pressure from the Cockerels' relentless attacks.

The match started off slowly, with the first real chance coming more than half an hour in when Cockburn’s Ashley Rosindale got a shot off in the box, but his effort was blocked.

ECU had a chance of their own just a minute later when Hough’s effort from the edge of the box hit the post, but the ball came back into play and Cockburn cleared the danger.

The second half was a far more action-packed affair as both teams went on the attack.

The home side should have been ahead in the 54th minute after Ryan Pratt controlled Rosindale’s cross, but the winger blasted his shot wide from inside the box.

ECU then had a big chance to take the lead after a great ball from Joe Knowles set Richard Howles up with a shot into an open net, but the substitute skied his shot over the bar.

However, Hough was on hand to make up for Knowles’ blunder just moments later when he finished from close range to put the Jacks ahead.

ECU looked in control until Cassidy received his marching orders, allowing Cockburn to get back into the match.

And on the stroke of full time Luccas Mello’s cross was nodded home by Robinson, sparking scenes of jubilation from the home supporters.
