Sorrento striker Cameron Teece scored a stunning long-range free kick to give them all three points in the "Joondalup City derby" against ECU Joondalup in week two of the NPL WA on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors had raced to a two-goal lead after only 30 minutes at the ECU Football Stadium, with David Stokoe and Jordan Roberts on target. But a brace from Joe Knowles had it all square at the break.

Knowles then missed the opportunity to complete his hat-trick when he saw his penalty saved by James Morgan, and it was Teece who had the final word.

The visitors arrived looking to bounce back from last week's defeat against Cockburn. They dominated early and deservedly opened the scoring on 23 minutes when Jordan Roberts' corner picked out Stokoe, who lost his marker to head home.

It was 2-0 eight minutes later. Good work on the right by Teece saw him find Roberts on the edge of the penalty area and his first time shot flew into the bottom corner of the net.

ECU needed something special to get back into the game and Knowles provided it six minutes from half time.

The former Perth Glory striker raced down the right, cut inside, picked his spot and buried it into the far corner of the net. Then in stoppage time the home side levelled, Andy Higgins finding Knowles and his low shot gave James Morgan no chance.

It was end to end in the second half before ECU were given the perfect opportunity to take the lead when Richard Howles was brought down in the box by Stokoe and referee Tom Glavovic pointed to the spot. Knowles stepped up to take the penalty but Morgan guessed the right way to make a great low save to his right.

And it was Sorrento who found the winner 14 minutes from time, and what a goal it was as Teece picked out the top corner of the net via the crossbar from 20 meters.
