Stirling Lions produced a brilliant performance to record a shock 3-1 win over league leaders Inglewood United at Perth Plasterboard Stadium on Saturday in round 21 of the PS4 NPLWA.

An early goal to Daniel Micevski and second half goals to Nicholas Ashley and Cameron Teece gave the hosts a three goal lead and they never looked back in an impressive showing.

Stirling coach Rob Milevski praised his side’s effort and efficiency.

“I’m very happy with the result and the performance,” he said.

“We created good opportunities, pressed in key areas and finished our chances.

“Playing the league leaders was a good challenge for the boys, they applied themselves throughout the whole match and we had winners all over the park.

“I thought our defence was very good, we made it very hard for them to penetrate.”

Inglewood coach Andy Keogh gave plenty of credit to Stirling after a lacklustre display from his side.

“They (Stirling) dominated in every aspect, they thoroughly deserved their victory,” he said.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do over the next two weeks.

“They got an early goal, fought hard, played better football and were more committed.”

Lions stalwart Micevski opened the scoring inside six minutes with a neat finish after Inglewood’s defence failed to clear their penalty area.

Both sides made substitutions in the first half as Inglewood’s John Migas and Stirling’s Alex Suleski were forced off due to injury.

United pushed for an equaliser at the end of the first half and their best chance fell to Scott Blackmore, who was unmarked but couldn’t find the target with his header.

Stirling came out of the blocks strongly in the second half with Moses Kalau causing problems down the left for the visitor’s defence.

Former Inglewood player Ashley then doubled the advantage for Stirling, as he rose above the defence and buried his header past Alex Dunn.

Teece made it 3-0 nine minutes later when he latched onto a through ball to calmly round the goalkeeper and slide it into an open net.

Inglewood pressed late and managed a consolation goal when Alex Salmon scored from the penalty spot, but it wouldn’t be enough as the leaders fell to a first home defeat of the season.
