Goals galore for Glory in big win

Report by Ryan Borrett

Perth Glory coasted past Mandurah City with a 5-0 win in round 21 of the PS4 NPLWA at Ashfield Arena on Saturday.

Captain Daniel Stynes scored a second half hat trick in a dominant display, as Mandurah’s defensive errors and inability to create chances let them down.

Coach John Gibson said he was pleased with his team’s performance and wants to see more of it on a consistent basis.

“It was one of our most mature performances in a long time and we took our opportunities really well,” he said.

“But it shouldn’t take an apparent big game for us to want to do this.

“We’ll keep driving forward and the boys will get some confidence for the rest of the season.”

Gibson also praised the form of his captain and hopes his side can build on the result.

“Stynes is a good player and did well today,” he said.

“But we’re very demanding of our group and we need to do more in the rest of year.”

Walter Scott opened the scoring for Glory on 25 minutes with a low driven shot from outside the area.

Mandurah’s best chance of the first half came five minutes before half time, when Nicholas Feely knocked Oliver McGee’s cross over the bar.

But Glory went 2-0 up just after half time when Yacoub Mustafa ran down the left wing and found Stynes, who curled into the net brilliantly from the edge of the area.

Stynes showed his class again to score Glory’s third on 67 minutes when he pounced after some scrappy Mandurah defence to slot past the goalkeeper.

The visitor’s day went from bad to worse as Thomas Straker was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a poor challenge on Michael Domfeh.

Stynes then completed his hattrick on 80 minutes after a sensational team move, before Callum Timmins made it 5-0 with two minutes remaining when he got on the end of a cross from the left wing.
