AFL South East are now the governing body of the South East Juniors following ratification of the proposal by member clubs at the leagues’ AGM held on Wednesday night.
Following a governance review in 2015, AFL South East’s move towards a regional structure has now seen the MPNFL and the SEJ vote in one layer of governance to service member clubs. The Frankston & District JFL are currently under a caretaker arrangement with the Commission, whilst the South East FNL Board approved the proposition at their most recent meeting. Both will stage Special General Meetings in the coming weeks for clubs to vote on the move with the Mornington Peninsula JFL clubs to decide at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
AFL South East General Manager today announced some significant staff changes and repositioning following on from the SEJ transition. South East Juniors General Manager Shaun Connell will head south as AFL South East’s Peninsula Leagues Manager, directly supporting the operations of the MPNFL and FDJFL.
“Shaun comes with a great deal of high-level administrative and management experience in a broad range of settings. He has held senior positions within the VCFL, was Football Manger of the Yarra Valley Mountain FNL and most recently the General Manager of the South East Juniors. During his time at the SEJ, he has built a strong financial platform with a solid cash reserve, built the staffing profile to 3 full-time and 2 part-time staff, has overseen the transition of the DDJFL to SEJ and seen significant growth in team numbers and overseen achievements such as being the first league in Victoria to run a Youth Girls competition.” Mr Bourke said.
Liz Triffitt, currently the League Operations Manager for SEFNL, assumes the role of South East Leagues Manager, responsible for the management of both the SEJ and SEFNL. Previously Liz was appointed as AFL Vic Project Manager overseeing the implementation of the recommendations of the DDJFL Future Directions review and continued with the DDJFL as a Board Member in 2010.
“Liz has been a terrific asset for both the SEJ and SEFNL at the time of their inauguration and the bringing together of the management of these leagues into one role aligns nicely with her skill set. Liz has held senior management roles with AFL Victoria and Little Athletics Victoria and her passion for the clubs in the region shines through in everything she does.”
AFL South East also add to their staffing portfolio former Melbourne FC Chief Commercial Officer and Nova Radio General Manager Peter Maynard. A former Melbourne player, Peter brings extensive football and commercial expertise to our community and the procurement, execution and development of partnerships
