Inaugural AFL South East Commission Chair Jeff Kimber announced his resignation at the AGM held last night. Having overseen the establishment of the Commission in May 2013 followed by the appointment of a Region General Manager in November 2013, Jeff has relinquished the role to devote more time to other priorities.
In closing the AGM and making the announcement, Jeff stated that the Commission was now through the difficult start-up phase and with the 2 additional commissioners voted in, was well positioned to meet the objectives stated in the strategic plan. He thanked fellow inaugural commissioners (Karen De Villiers, Scott Grimster and Russell Jacgung) for their support and commitment over the past 18 months. He also acknowledged the contribution of Paul Theobald who was appointed to the casual vacancy in July of this year.
Jeff has been at the helm of the Commission through a difficult time and has gone above and beyond the call of duty through the establishment phase. Change is not something that is always greeted with open arms and it is fair to say that many hours have been spent correcting misconceptions around the role of the commission to stakeholders.
There have been many achievements under Jeff's tenure including the review into junior-senior transition structures, regional tribunal implementation, the first regional strategic plan, the appointment of Football Development Managers and a Region General Manager - and they are just the big ticket items. There have been many other areas of focus including stakeholder relations, game development and brand awareness initiatives that have also been driven under his leadership.
AFL South East would like to thank Jeff for his contribution to football in the region and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
An annoucnement on a replacement Chairman will be made in the coming weeks.
