Five talented footballers from the South East Region now have the opportunity to forge an AFL career following the conclusion of the AFL primary and rookie drafts.
The Dandenong Stingrays continues its proud history of nurturing talent for the games elite competition and Frankston Dolphins have again afforded the opportunity for a player to realise their dream of securing a spot on an AFL list.
In the AFL primary draft, Stingrays players Tom Lamb (West Coast Eagles) and Bailey Dale (Western Bulldogs) were both selected. Tom and Bailey both played their junior football at Edithvale/Aspendale - a club that has a proud history in developing quality footballers.
One of the great stories of the draft was Narre Warren Foxes junior Toby McLean. The Oakleigh Charger missed out on the Stingrays program however managed to convince the Chargers to give him a chance. It certinaly pad off when he was taken by the Western Bulldogs at pick number 26.
In the rookie draft today, Mitchell White from the Stingrays was picked up by Melbourne. Mitchell played his junior football at Seaford.
Former Stingray now Frankston Dolphin Nic Newman was picked up by Sydney at the ripe old age of 21 and continues the Dolphins fine record of mature aged players getting their chance at AFL level.
