St Kilda FC and their major partner Watersun launched "Footy Foundations" on Saturday, a initiative which will bring significant benefits to FDJFL clubs through equipment, financial grants and league support.
The initiative involves the sale of a house, built by Watersun at the exclusive Sandhurst Club Estate. Part of the proceeds of the sale will be set aside for the FDJFL community along with additional programs including player visits, club memberships and merchandise.
In announcing the partnership at the site of the new home, St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis described the initiative as an important continuation and strengthening of the FDJFL and St Kilda relationship.
"The St Kilda FC and the FDJFL have always been intrinsically linked and we are now looking to strengthen those ties. St Kilda greats such as Stewart Leowe, Robert Harvey, Nathan Burke, Russell Greene and many more started their football journey in the league, along with 3 current St Kilda listed players. St Kilda FC are committed to the whole of the bayside region and this is one part of that commitment", Mr Finnis announced to a large gathering at the Sandhurst Club.
Region General Manager for AFL South East Jeremy Bourke described the partnership as industry leading.
"The Watersun, St Kilda FC and FDJFL Footy Foundation represents one the largest single partnership investments there has been in junior football. Through this exciting initiative, the supply of equipment, grants, players visits and league support will provide a real and tangible boost to junior football in the Frankston region. Not only does the partnership solidify St Kilda FC’s commitment to the region, it provides a stronger and more diverse connection between the elite and junior sectors of our sport. This is truly an industry leading partnership in which all parties should be congratulated."
Equipment to clubs including footballs, medical kits and training equipment will be distributed to clubs in February/March next year with the grants program to open in March.
