NAIDOC Week celebrations are being held across Australia between July 6-12 to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life and is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support the local Indigenous community.
NAIDOC stands for the 'National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee'. This committee was established to organise national activities and celebrations on behalf of indigenous communities and the week has since been named in its honour.
