The Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Damian Drum joined local politicians, Cora Lynn Cobras members and the AFL South East Development Team yesterday to announce an $84,000 lighting upgrade at Pakenham Upper Recreation Reserve.
The funding comes from the latest round of the Country Football Netball Program - a partnership between the Victroian Government, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
“Through the Country Football Netball Program we’re building more sustainable, quality sporting infrastructure that caters for growth and encourages even more people to get active, look after their health and reach their potential through sport,” Mr Drum said.
Mr Drum said the $84,000 grant will be a huge boost for local sport, allowing clubs like the Cobras and the Auskick program the opportunity to host twilight training and night competition.“The new lights also open up the reserve to more community events including school fetes, night markets and concerts, the possibilities are endless.”
The Country Football Netball Program, has seen a direct investment of $1m by AFL Victoria into facility upgrades througout country Victoria. Clubs interested in discussing opportunities that exist under the CFNP are encouraged to speak with either their local Football Development Manager or Region General Manager.
