This weekend, right across the football industry and at all levels, Australian Rules Football will pay it's respects to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in our country’s name. A number of matches are set down for Anzac Day itself, however matches right across the weekend will mark to day solemnly.
In the Casey Cardinia FNL, Tooradin-Dalmore will host Cranbourne on Anzac Day with the senior match to commence at 2.00pm. A full Anzac Day service will precede the main game which will include a fly-over by wartime aircraft, a guard of honour by service personnel from HMAS Cerebus and a live rendition of the Last Post by a bugler. Students from Tooradin Primary School will sing the National Anthem and specially made commemorative jumpers will mark the occasion.
In the Nepean FNL, matches scheduled on Anzac Day include Hastings hosting Frankston Bombers (seniors at 3.15pm) and Sommerville hosting Pearcedale (seniors at 2pm). Again, both matches will contain Anzac Day ceremonies including rendition of the Last Post, National Anthem and a minutes silence.
As with all games played on Anzac Day, a donation from the gate receipts will be made to the local RSL branches.
Acroos the weekend, clubs in both the junior and senior leagues across the South East Region will honour the memory of our fallen and the service provided by our returned with ceremonies at matches. Show your support by buying an RSL badge this weekend and get down to a local football match this weekend.
Lest We Forget.
