1985 Mini Games
Twenty-four years ago, in 1985 the Cook Islands hosted the second South Pacific Mini Games.
|Papua New Guinea topped the medals with 13 golds, 12 silver and 12 bronze but Cook Islanders were happy with their haul of 6 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze. In fact we ended up level with regional big guns Fiji.|
Medal Total - 2nd Mini South Pacific Games
|Papua New Guinea||13||12||12|
|Wallis and Futuna||2||1||3|
The stadium, which was built specially for the mini games, had a grass track but several new South Pacific Games records were set on itincluding the 800m (W), heptathlon (W) and long jump (W). New records were also set in the marathon (W) and 20km walk.
Over 20 new mini games records were also set but this is not surprising since it was only the second mini games to be held.
A new all-weather track has been laid for these games.
