A Flying 11 has been added to the BSS club fleet after a very generous gesture from south of the border in response to the recent Brisbane floods.
Stan Willmott from the Belmont 16' Sailing Club wanted to help one of the river sailing clubs in Brisbane affected by the flood, so he asked the Flying 11 Association to find a suitable club to receive his Flying 11 called "Xstream" as a way of encouraging kids to get back on the water.
It was an impressive day at BSS with the launching of "Xstream" with the guidance of Flying 11 Association President David Price with Mark and Susan Long to assist the Squid Kids learn the ropes of the new boat. It was also very pleasing to see the Brisbane 18 footers Sailing Club bring some of their Flying 11 fleet so that the Squid Kids could get a go and participate in the first ever Flying 11 race at BSS.
A special thanks should go to Bruce Hermann and his team for making their boats available for the day. No doubt the "Xstream" will get plenty of use at the club and at interclub events and it is planned to be on the starting line at the Flying 11 nationals when they are next held in Brisbane in 2013.
