A damp but successful end to the first half of the 2010/2011 Sailing Season was had by all.
Torrential rain in the morning and up to close to start time didn't dampen the spirits of the hardy competitors and at around 1:30pm the rain stopped while the breeze stayed in, allowing the third heat of the club championship to be started. The absence of the Cruise Ship allowed the Lasers to have a long beat right up to the Gateway Bridge, with the shallow northern bank catching a few sailors who had not had previous experience of the depths around the Gateway.
A Hangover Handicap was also staged by some of the survivors of the Skiffies Lunch held the previous day, in a fleet of Vagabonds with their young progeny doing most of the work.
After the sailing, a BBQ was enthusiastically run by the Sabot parents although sadly there was no "fire display" as on the previous occasion. The Club then presented a cheque for $300 to each of the fifteen sabots making the long trip to Wynyard, Tasmania to help with the costs of shipping the boats there, and finally Santa made his long-awaited appearance to distribute some toys to all those who had been good in the last year.
The best of luck to all those competing in the Championships this year including the Sabots and Skiffs.
