Sabot Nationals at Gosford
The biggest ever team of junior BSS sailors participated in 46th National Sabot Title held at the Gosford Sailing Club.
Our sailors did the club proud with some very good results. It was a magnificent sight to watch over 100 1ups on the start line in the invitation race and there was over 50 youngsters sailing 2up sabots to make it the biggest junior regatta in Australia. In the sabot week 2ups, there was a BSS quinella with Steph and Ben winning a see-saw battle from Hugo and Anton. The daily battle between these two boats was a pleasure to watch and the competition has sharpened their reflexes for the rest of the season.
In the sabot week 1ups, Nick had a terrific regatta to finish in a clear second place, Liam improved throughout the regatta to finish 10th and Elijah was hoping for heavier conditions finishing 24th. They helped a very strong SQSA team win the teams event with 8 SQSA boats finishing in the top 12.
Competition in the 1up nationals was cut-throat and will be a springboard to bigger and better things next year. Lachie was the best placed 1up coming 17th and showed what he could do by finishing 2nd in the last heat. Ed, Trevor, Alex and Natalie all finished in the top half of the fleet and Frazer finished 42nd which was still a very good effort in his first year of 1up. Our young 2up sailors did particularly well with Nicole & Jack, Maggie & Christina, Xanthe & Hanne helped win the teams event for SQSA. Lily & Carlton showed just how strong our local fleet is by coming runner up in the national title and winning 3 heats.
I would also like to congratulate Dave Eutick for being elected National President of the ANSC. When you consider the support our young sailors get from the club and parents like Shane Koreman who is the President of SQSA, it should be no surprise that more sailors from BSS attended a national junior championship this year than any other sailing club in Queensland. That is an achievement we should all be proud of.
