Gentle winds in the morning with 6 Tackers graduates taking advantage of the club boats and Alexander Jurovic's coaching to practise their sailing skills and cavort with the dolphins for a while.
By the time the sea breeze kicked in for the afternoon race, 17 WYC boats joined by George, Graham & John from Somers lined up for the 4th heat of the 2015-16 Commodore's Cup.
Josh Franke took pity on the very slack Division 1 group, delaying their start 10 minutes to give them time to finish their lunch and get to the vicinity of the start line.
The Impulses had a tight race all day as did the cats. With an ebbing tide the reef came in to play and unfortunately Kris Willand came to grief and had to withdraw with major centreboard damage. Vinnie warned dad Steve about the reef just in time for a lighting tack and saved the Hobie 18 centreboards, but the Hobie 16s managed to avoid any issues. Vinnie Cross and James Fleming were battling with Alexander Jurovic and first time crew Rob Sleath leaving Adam and Joshua Smith in their wake early on.
In the Pacers it was a mother and son affair with Anna and Oscar Sleath edging out Robbie Lang and Melinda Richards, all in their first races together. Robbie celebrated the acheivement by capsizing the boat and making mum have a swim in front of the club
Elodie Sleath and Kai Smith had a go at the outside the reef course in their Opti's but didn't manage to complete the course. Kai sailed well though and it won't be long before he is giving Emma Lang some competition.
Adam and Joshua managed to edge ahead of James and Vincent on the last lap and beat them over the line by 7 seconds but it was Mark Axton in Matchless who comfortably took out the heat in front of the Hobie 16s and Phil Balcombe's Sabre in 4th place.
