The regatta was a well run and welcoming event – typical MYC tightly run, slick but very friendly atmos. They really do things well. Blue sky delivered on order too.
The winds on both days were generally quite light and variable, although some fresher breezes occurred late morning on the second day, around the middle of racing on that day.
In the Optis, it was a competitive fleet made up of many of the keenest open Vic sailors and included most if not all of the VIODA team and squad. Even though light breezes were frustrating, they provided opportunities for some absorbing tactical sailing and some unexpected results, giving lighter sailors a chance over more experienced ones.
Jeremy got a second in one race on day one, and Lucy got a top ten in one race on day two. Very creditable. In the overall results, Jeremy placed 13th and Lucy 18th. Weber grandkids Lachie and Immi were also competing.
The Laser section of the regatta was run pretty well besides the Radial fleet starts. Wind ranging from 7-12 knots on both days making tough racing conditions not really suiting Alexander. Alexander finished top ten every race and requalified for the Victorian Sailing Team with that result combined with States Title results.
Well done!
