We had another good winter coaching session last Sunday. Perfect sailing conditions on Western Port: light northerly, small gusts, flat water, sunny and warm. The changing winds (speed and direction) allowed all sailors to practice their tactics during practice races.
Regular winter coaching sailors formed 2 groups. Vincent Cross, Eleanor Rich, James Fleming and Stephen Fisher sailing Laser + Wendy Wilson and Alan Bryson sailing Sabre were coached by Robbie and Michelle. Lulu & Millie Harvey on their Optimists were coached by Xavier and Lynn. Lasers and Sabres practiced boat handling, trimming and starts through many races. The level is quite high and competition fierce with some Laser sailors pulling the group up. Lulu and Millie practiced boat handling up wind, mark rounding, sail trimming, starts and wind observation. They were both concentrated and they are improving their skills session after session.
Thank you to the participants, to Robbie, Michelle, Frank, Lynn and Adrienne for making the sessions possible!
Team racing practice
All of the regular sailors are interesting pending on the date. We will have to find a suitable date probably in September when it is warmer.
We need 2 * 3 boats * 2 teams = 12 participants. The plan is to involve the regular coaching group (incl. small weights like the Optis to team up with a Laser/Sabre sailor) and closer to the date we will open it to other sailors. as spot allow.
Next Session
The next session is 9am Sunday August 10 and there’s room for more sailors. We are hosting a Sabre regatta in the afternoon so we are expecting some extra Sabres participating in the coaching. For $30 you’ll have lots of fun, lots of learning and lots of friends. Ring Lynn 0403 741 471 or Xavier 0438 051 466 .
