Last Sunday was the 2nd session of the WYC Winter coaching and actually the 1st session on the water.
We had great conditions on Westernport: flat water, 5 to 15 knots (northerly and gusty at times), clear sky and of course the dolphins to support our sailors.
2 groups were on the water: 5 Lasers, 1 Sabre and 1 Impulse coached by Robbie and 4 Optimists coached by Xavier.
2 families from the WYC were represented in the Optimist group: the Harveys with Mille and Lulu; and the Vandames with Louis and Hugo. Hugo was often playing with the Dolphins, Louis working on his handling skills, Lulu trying to race her sister and Millie very concentrated in improving her handling skills. Millie showed some good progress in mark rounding and tacks.
On the advanced group, the Wilson family (Wendy on a Sabre and David on a Laser) were representing the Somers Yacht Club. The rest of the group were from the WYC: James Grey, Vincent Cross and Eleonore Rich were sailing their Lasers, Andrew Stevens his Impulse and Stephen Fisher sailed a Laser for the first time and loved it!
The Laser class was well represented with 5 boats. Many exercises in the first part of the training and very close racing during the practice races.
Several new boats (including Mornington Yacht Club) have expressed their interest to join during the next coaching session. We should have about 14 boats on June 1st.
Attached is a selection of pictu6res for you to select from. I have them in high resolution if required.
