Many thanks to all those members who attended the working bees and have helped prepare the club for the upcoming season which opens on October 20th. A lot has been accomplished to ensure the clubhouse, yard and equipment are ready for use. A special thanks to Russell Jones for his planning and preparation for the working bees, as well as providing a considerable amount of his own equipment to enable the work to be done.
Opening Day this year will include a number of activities.
- There will be a club training session in the morning for those who are rostered on for duties during the season, or who wish to volunteer. More are needed.
- A Club coaching session for juniors will also take place.
- A Sail Past and short trophy race will be held at 12.15 pm, including Green Fleet.
- The official Opening of the season by our own World Sailing Champion, Robbie Lovig will take place at 2.00 pm followed by afternoon tea. Members are requested to bring a plate to share for afternoon tea.
Boat owners who store boats. On behalf of the General Committee and Yard Master Lyn,a reminder to all members that you need to check with Lyn Dugay before placing a boat in the yard. He can be contacted on 0403 741 471. This season will see more Optis, Lasers and Pacers in the club and Lyn will endeavour to accommodate members requests where possible. A reminder that preference for storage is given to members who actively use their boat. Last season nearly all available spaces were occupied.
All boat owners will receive a membership tag, listing your YA membership number and season date, either in person or by mail from the Membership Secretary, Christiane Coutant. The tag must be attached to your boat's trailer or trolley. An explanantory letter will accompany the tag. As the YA cards are being phased out and in order to help with identifying club members' boats the General Committee have instituted this system.
A reminder that boat owning members who have not paid their subscription and storage fee by the 20th October are not entitled to storage and they will be requested to remove their boat. (the club year is from April 1 to March 31st.)
Boat Hire
The club has the following boats available for hire either on a daily basis or for the season; for those members who don't own a boat or wish to try something different. A 420, Pacer, Laser full rig, Micron with equivalent to a radial rig, 2 sparrows are available. The hiring form can be downloaded from the club website.
Club tractor
It is planned to have the new (second hand) tractor available by the Opening day. All that remains to be done is the registration. More information about the use of the tractor will be published in the near future.
West Bar on Friday Night
A reminder that the West Bar is open on Friday nights from 6.00 pm. With daylight saving and warmer weather it makes an ideal place to unwind after a busy week. Visitors are welcome.
