Pip Pietromonaco and James Wierzbowski have completed their first regatta in their new Nacra.
Pip and Jimbo have just completed their first regatta on the Nacra 17 (new Olympic multihull boat). The Delta Lloyd Regatta - EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup, held at Medemblik in The Netherlands, is a massive international event where over 1000 boats complete on various courses.
The Westernport sailors picked up their new Nacra on Thursday, put it together over two days and then had two days of practice prior to the regatta. Most other competitors have had their boats for three months prior to this regatta
There were seventeen teams on Nacras, of which most competitors have represented their country at an Olympic games. Racing was carried out under a new format thus making the start extremely important as the races only lasted 20-30 minutes. The extremely cold and windy conditions lead to the second day racing to be cancelled.
Whilst Pip and Jimbo finished 16th with two OCS and one DNF the results do not show the closeness in the actual races. In summary, they report "With the boat being drastically different to anything else we have ever sailed the event was a big learning experience. We are very happy with our progression and can't wait to get to our next event in Weymouth, England"
They have now packed up and have moved onto compete at the next Eurosaf event 'Sail for Gold' and are clearly looking forward to the new competition.
