While sailing season has wrapped up for many club members, for some the action is just hotting up!
The Star performers from Yachting Western Port are without question the team of Pip Pietromonaco of WYC and James Wierzbowski of Merricks YC . They have been sailing together for several years not just throughout Australia but Internationally as well. This season, their results include two second placings in national events and both have been recognized by and will receive assistance from Yachting Australia. Over the coming week they will be training with Australian Olympic coach 'Bunny' Warren at WYC.
In June they head off to Europe for 10 weeks where they will compete in the following events in a new Nacra 17, a new class which will be sailed at the next Olympics with a male & female crew:
Delta Lloyd World Regatta in Holland - RESULTS HERE
Sail for Gold in Weymouth, U.K. - RESULTS HERE
Keil Week, Germany - RESULTS HERE
Nacra 17 Worlds, Holland - RESULTS HERE
In August, James leaves for USA as 1 of 2 Victorians in the Australian Youth Team which will be competing in the Youth America’s Cup Championship in San Francisco in September. They will be sailing AC45’s, the new foiling catamaran which is a scaled-down version of the new America’s Cup design, a 72ft foiling catamaran. Several months ago James went with the Australian Team to USA where they competed against teams from around the world for selection into the Championship and Australia won a place.
We are proud to have such talented and hard working (training nearly every day!) sailors and wish them their best sailing ever and we will be looking out for their results.
As well as the WYC web-site, you can keep an eye on Pip and Jimbo's exploits on the RxSailRacing Facebook page
