It is going to be a busy few weeks at WYC and we need some helpers.
This Sunday we have coaching in the morning and Heat 5 of the Commodore's Cup at 1.30. For those who haven't sailed the Commodore's Cup series before, this is a longer format race where all boats are competing against each other to find which boat sails best against their yardstick (handicap) on the day. This has been a keenly fought competition so far this season with nine different skippers (Mark Axton, MIchelle Bursa, Vincent Cross, John Eriksson, James Fleming, Andrew Hill, Bryan Hill, Robbie Lovig and Adam Smith) taking out a place in at least one of the first 4 heats. We look forward to another big racing fleet to find out who is the fastest (and slowest!) boat at the club this month. Looks light the winds could be light as they were in heat 1 so watch out for the Optis who beat us all that day!
The following weekend (Labour Day long weekend) WYC will host the Impulse state titles. To successfully run this event we DESPERATELY need volunteers to drive / crew our 2 rescue boats. If you can help out on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, please contact Andrew Hill (andrewhill@live.com.au). Thanks to Colin and Wendy Franke and Marg Douglas who have already put their hand up to help on all 3 days. Aslo thanks to Heather Crabtree, Adrienne Dugay and Jenny Jones who have volunteered to arrange catering for the event - you would like to help out in this areaplease contact Adam Smith (adam.and.karen.smith@Bigpond.com).
On March 17 WYC will host the Westernport Youth Regatta for sailors under the age of 21. On-line registration is now open and we are expecting a very large representation from our junior sailors - please click here to enter
Finally a reminder that to mark the 50th year of sailing at Westernport Yacht Club, there will be a 'Back to Balnarring' celebration day at the club on April 7. This will be a fantastic opportunity for members of yesteryear to catch up with old friends and share stories with the current generation of 'boaties' at the club. We have assembled some great memorabilia with old West Port Bounds, photographs and even some video footage from the 60's which will all be on display on the day. There is no cover charge.
To make this a truly memorable event we need your help to get the word out. The registratons are still trickling in with Joyce Hall and Rob Hart amongst the former members to sign-up this week. As well as registering yourself, please pass on the invitation to other members from years gone by who are probably not receiving this bulletin. Note if they are not so good with the online skills you can register for them (Jim - can you enter the Harvey's details?) or get them to contact Adam Smith at info@westernport.org.au or 0404 885 348. If you can get there - please let us know by clicking here to register
