Commodore's News report for December
Recent news from overseas just affirms how fortunate we are to live in such a wonderful and peaceful country. I am sure that many like Heather and myself have given our children or grandchildren an extra hug this week.
Members will notice a change around the club when you come down this weekend. We have finally received permission to reduce the vegetation level on the beach side of the club. A small group have begun this process. Unfortunately the cost to have it done professionally is beyond our means and the work will need to be done by club members. If you have a spare hour or two, in the coming weeks or specific equipment please contact me. Equipment required includes: long handled pruners, clippers, a mulcher.
We have hosted over 150 local school children in our Tackers Introduction program during the past two weeks. Unfortunately one day had to be cancelled due to bad weather, though we will host this group early next year. All children parents and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and there was much positive chatter about how great sailing is from the participants. We hope to see a number of them join us on the water next month in the Tackers program. This program is nearly full for the whole of January and we will be holding two Sailing School Programs using the Pacers as well. A big thank you to Marg Douglas, who coordinated the Tackers Introduction and Tackers programs for her continued work to make these such a success. The program could not operate without the valuable assistance of Lyn Dugay and Russell Jones who operate the rescue boats. Both of them develop a wonderful rapport with the children as well as ensure their safety on water and make the instructor work so much easier. During the second week we were joined by some of our younger sailors in Meg, Eleanor, Alex, Will and Wilhlem who assisted Trevor Wilcox and myself as Instructors. It is great to see the positive support and interaction of these younger members. The future of the club will be in good hands if these members continue to be involved.
The Friday Night socials have continued to be well supported by members. We hope that as the holiday season starts that many more members will be able to join us and enjoy meeting together and enjoying the club facilities. There are some great up coming Social events. Please look on the website. We are operatiing a booking system to help us with catering, so it would be appreciated if members could use the system so we can provide the best service to all attending.
We will be extending our contact service to members through SMS as well as email in the near future. Details will be announced shorlty.
I extend to all best wishes for a wonderful and joyous Christmas with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you at the club over the coming festive and holiday season. Don't forget that you can bring along friends, the club does have great facilities for everyone to enjoy a safe and wonderful day at the beach. Please fill in their names in the visitors book which is now located just inside the eastern door of the clubhouse.
