Club refurbishment update, Tackers Introduction program. storm damage and more.
Members will note the Junior and Coaching room has received a flooring upgrade through the generous support of Steve Hodgson of Carpetworld Mornington. What a difference; many thanks Steve. Juniors are requested to place all sailing equipment in the slots provided. As the room is now used for coaching purposes as well as storage, it does need to be kept clean and tidy.
The recent heavy weather brought large seas pounding onto the beach which caused some damage. Simon Spalding's boat moored off the club was sunk in the storm last Thursday but has now been brought to shore. The rubber mats on both ramps were pushed back up and across the ramps. Russell Jones and Lyn Dugay spent some time pulling them back so the ramps could be used for the Tackers Introduction day.
Members are encouraged to attend the Friday night gatherings in the West Club bar. Bring some friends along and enjoy a convivial atmosphere consisting of food, wonderful sunsets and of course the company of friends and others.
Last week the Club held a Tackers Introduction program for Year 4/5 students of Flinders Christian College and Somers Primary School. Unfortunatley the Tuesday was blown out and the second Flinders class will now have their experience early next year. This week we welcome Year 4 students from Red Hll and Balnarring Primary Schools. These programs only operate through the generous sponsorship of Bendigo Bank of Balnarring and the voluntary work of a small group of members. Thanks go to: Russell Jones, Lyn Duguy and Will Palmer for their wonderful voluntary work, Marg Douglas for her organisation and club members who are also parents of participating students. Without their support the program would not operate.
The painting of the outside of the club house is nearly complete. When much needed repairs to the Jim Douglas Race Box stairwell are completed the painting will also be finished.
The club now has lockers for members to rent, courtesy of generous sponsorship by Gillron Services of Hastings. There are four in the Gents and nine in the Ladies available. A locker can be hired for $20 per season or $2 per day. Please see me if you would like to rent a locker. Members looking for quality cabinets and/or kitchen and bathroom cabinet renovations should call Gilbert on 5979 2397.
It is pleasing to see several juniors sailing in and doing extremely well in the Commodore's Cup. The numbers sailing are gradually increasing the closer we get to Christmas. The Committee are looking forward to seeing a near empty boatyard during a race day in the future.
The weather station is ready to be attached to its brackets on the west cardinal mark. All that is required is a calm day with low to mid tide during a weekend and four people to re-attach it.
