On Sunday we encouraged novice sailors to visit the club and experience the thrill of sailing
Sunday saw us host a Discover Sailing Day (see http://discoversailing.org.au/ ). The Discover Sailing Day is our opportunity to show potential sailors you just how fun, safe, accessible, and affordable sailing is. We provided them the option to go out for a short sail with an experienced sailor, have a look around the club facilities, as well as find out about the programs and courses available. This was a great opportunity for non-sailing members to come down to the club and get out on a boat. Roger Crabtree, Steve Cross, James Fleming, Bryan Hill, Adam Smith, and Josh Smith took a number of visitors out for a quick spin around our part of the bay on Hobies, Pacers and Optis.
We had around 15 to 20 vsitors through the club on the day. Some were friends of friends, some holidayed at Balnarring and wondered what those sail boats they saw on the bay were up to.
We signed up 4 children to Tackers on the day and a couple of sailing school customers.
All feedback from participants was very positive. A couple of families enquired about membership, and one was pretty much signed up on the day.
Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Marg Douglas for coordination on the day, Bruce Douglas, Jim Douglas, Noel Gibson and the Pietromonacos for getting the rescue boats on the water and Heather Crabtree, Adrienne Dugay and Jenny Jones for extending the club's hospitality and BBQ with our visitors.
