Cup Day at WYC saw 3 teams of Optis battling for the Balnarring Cup. Results here.
A fun day of racing at Balnarring saw The Killer Whales triumph over The Dolphins and Boeings to win our Opti teams racing regatta. The teams were as follows:
Boeings |
Dolphins |
The Killer Whales |
Harrison Ede (Somers) |
James Fleming (WYC) - aka 'Pinky' |
Vincent Cross (WYC) |
Will Fleming (WYC) |
Toby Cross (WYC) - aka 'Bluebottle' /
Charlie Purcell (Mornington) aka 'Flipper' |
Carlo Caiani (Sorrento) |
Alistair Gray (WYC) |
Joshua Smith (WYC) - aka 'Larry' |
Lucy Ede (Somers) |
The weather was kind with light south-westerly winds which threatened to drop out during the first race but instead shifted around to the south-east at around 5 knots.
While the numbers were a little down on last year, it was great to again see support from the Ede family from Somers, the Purcell family (resident in Merricks and sailing from Mornington) and we welcomed the Caiani family who sail at Sandringham and Sorrento. Not only was Carlo Caiani part of the winning team, his mother Michelle drew Green Moon in the Melbourne Cup Sweep so I'm sure we'll see the Caiani's again next year (if not sooner).
Race by race results:
- Boeings 10 d The Killer Whales 11
- Dolphins 8 d Boeings 13
- The Killer Whales 8 d Dolphins 13
- The Killer Whales 7 d Boeings 14
- Boeings 9 d Dolphins 12
- The Killer Whales 9 d Dolphins 12
Overall:
- The Killer Whales 35
- Dolphins 45
- Boeings 46
Thanks to Jim Douglas, Colin & Josh Franke, Noel Gibson, Peter Gray and Andrew Hill who launched the patrol boats, set the course and ran the races on the water. A big thanks also to our on water umpire Bryan Hill who had a little bit of work to do, including calling 'Pinky' from the Dolphins for 'tiller-wagging'.
Altogether a great day was had by all so make a note to get to the club on Cup Day next year.
