My parents (Adam Snr and Merran) built their holiday house in Foreshore Rd in 1971 and decided to join the yacht club at the end of the road and learned to sail in a Sparrow. I got to replace mum in the Sparrow when I was 7 and Dad let me take the tiller when I was 10. Through my teenage years at Balnarring I raced in an Elwood Junior (small cat), Paper Tiger and Mosquito.
In my early 20s I had to sell my Mosquito when my work as a IT Management Consulant started to involve long stints interstate and in New Zealand.
The next phase of my life started at Balnarring when I proposed to Karen on the jetty (which still reached the water then!). Chloe and Josh arrived in 1997 and 2000 respectively and they both were fortunate enough to be around the club when the Tackers program got underway.
Two years ago Chloe decided she had outgrown the Opti and wanted to sail with me so we are now racing a Hobie 16 while Josh continues to build his racing skills in the Opti.
Outside of the club I have been doing a little bit of ocean racing with a former work colleague over at Hobsons Bay. For the kids, sailing has to fit around dancing and running (Chloe) Football and Basketball (Josh). We all look forward to getting down to Balnarring on the weekends and through January when Karen takes a break from running her speech, drama and singing school (Karen Margaret Studios).
