Indoor Volleyball Rules and Regulations
Unless otherwise stated in these rules and regulations, all games will be conducted under FIVB Rules as published at
www.fivb.org
1. All teams will compete for medals in their nominated age category. Where there are too few teams entered in a category, the organisers reserve the right to combine categories together. Finals will still be played in the age category in which the team is entered.
eg If there are insufficient 30+ & 35+ Mens teams to form a reasonable draw then a combined 30+ & 35+ Mens division will be played. All games played by all teams within the combined division will count towards final rankings. At the end of pool or round play, the top 30+ Mens teams will compete in finals and the top 35+ Mens teams will compete in separate finals.
2. All divisions will play pool play and teams will be ranked at the end of the pool play. Cross-over finals and between pools and finals will be played as necessary to rank teams. Finals will be played for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
3. All matches will be played as compulsory 3-set matches. The game will not end if one team wins the first two sets. Cross-Over finals and Bronze medal matches will be played as best of 3 sets. Gold Medal matches will be played as best out of 5 sets. All sets will be played as first to 25 with a winning margin of two points except the deciding set in a finals match which will be played to 15 with a winning margin of two points.
4. Teams will be ranked in their pools or divisions by the number of games won. Where this produces a tie, set ratio will be used. This is equal to the number of sets won divided by the number of sets played. Where this still produces a tie, point ratio shall be used. This is equal to the number of points won by a team divided by the total number of points played by that team. Where this still produces a tie, the results of matches played between the tied teams during the competition will be used to break the tie according to the procedures in this paragraph.
5. Each team must have a minimum of six players to play and may have no more than twelve players. Teams may nominate a Libero. A new Libero may be nominated for each match out of the twelve players. The following addition is made to the Libero rule:
- If, through injury, a team is left with 5 players and the Libero, the Libero may revert to being a normal player. Ie The Libero is a last-chance exceptional substitution.
6. Player numbers must be between 1 and 99.
7. The Australian Volleyball Federations 12-Substitution rule will be used. Details of this rule are attached at the end of these regulations.
8. The immediate protest resolution system will be used. Where a team wishes to protest a decision of a referee (as allowed in FIVB rules), the court captain must approach the 1st Referee at the point of protest. The 1st Referee will call on the Chief Referee to resolve the protest. Where a team does not accept the Chief Referees ruling, the tournament jury will decide the protest. There will be no appeals. Matches can not be protested after they are completed and no match will be replayed as a result of a protest.
9. The official match ball shall be the Molten IV58LC or IV58LC3.
10. The Guaranteed Earliest Starting Time (GEST) system will be used for game scheduling. Games will start at the time indicated on the draw, or 15 minutes after the end of the previous game whichever is the later.
11. Any team that can not field 6 players within 15 minutes of official start time of the match (as described above) shall forfeit the match and lose all sets 25-0.
