Netball NZ Job Opportunities

Email from Garratt Wiliamson,National Technical Officials Manager, Netball New Zealand:

'Late last year I announced the outcomes of the High Performance Umpire Review. One of the findings of the review was that the gap between Community and High Performance Umpiring was widening and that opportunities for people in Community Umpiring to progress, were few.

As a result of this, we have separated the coaching & performance review functions of a traditional “panel member” and created two new community roles that mirror roles in High Performance. This allows people at community level to acquire skills and creates a High Performance Pathway. These roles are as follows;

Zone Watchlist Umpire Coach

In order to build a more robust talent identification programme, we have disbanded the National Umpire Development Squad and created a Zone Watchlist of umpires we believe could operate at elite level within 3-5 years. We believe that a Zone Centred Talent Identification programme will build depth in umpiring and umpire coaching as well as growing capability in the Zones. We are in contact with 7 umpires and hope to be able to announce these to you shortly.

NNZ is looking for applications for one coach from each Zone to coach these Watchlist Umpires. NNZ will offer specialist coaching support to the successful applicant and work with them and the umpire(s) throughout the season. It is not expected that the successful coach will work with more than two umpires in 2017 nor is it necessary for the coach and umpire(s) to be based in the same city. In the event that a Zone has no Watchlist Umpires, we will still work on developing the coach in that Zone.

Zone Performance Reviewer

We are looking for two Performance Reviewers per zone, whose role will be to attend Beko Netball League matches and performance review each umpire. The Performance Reviewer will de-brief with the umpires coach after the match, not directly with the umpire.

We will work closely with the successful applicants to ensure alignment with their ANZ Premiership equivalents, as well as with the National Technical Officials Manager in terms of their development.

Position Descriptions for the roles are attached. Applications can be made by e-mail to me at garrattw@netballnz.co.nz. Applications should be received by 5pm, 31 January 2017. Please note that we are after a specific set of skills, all of which are outlined in the PD’s.

Also note that no one person may not hold both roles.
