Coach - Peter Siddal
To all of the players and parents of the under 8’s, a big hello and warm welcome to season 2015.
There are those who already know me, and those who don’t, so let me tell you a bit about myself anyway.
I am a father of 3 children, twins Chloe and Harrison and my older son Lachlan. Harrison will be playing under 8’s this season, whilst Chloe will continue to do dancing. Lachlan loves his basketball.
I am relatively new to the club, having spent time at Auskick a couple of years ago. I am however not new to coaching. In the 1990’s I spent the best part of a decade coaching age groups between Under 9’s and Under 11’s at the East Brighton Junior Football Club.
My philosophy on coaching is pretty simple, especially at Under 8 level. Firstly, I see myself more as a teacher / nurturer rather than a coach.
It is very important early on that the children learn the word respect. Respect towards each other, their opponents, umpires, parents and helpers, and the club in general. This will enhance good behaviours in the future, which will benefit the club in years to come.
All the children will be encouraged to do their best, and through training sessions they will be given positive reinforcement through their skills sessions which will give them confidence. It will be a fun and safe environment for them to learn with the emphasis on FUN.
The kids are entering game play for the first time. They will be given the opportunity to play in all positions on the ground, mainly focusing on backs, centres and forwards and share equal playing time. If every kid kicks a goal this year, that would be awesome.
Thank you to the Knox Junior Football Club for having me on board for the season. Everyone at the Under 8’s wish all the teams at this club the very best for the season.
More information to come!!
