My name is Rod Marget (Rocket) and it is my great privilege to be coaching the under 11 falcons in 2016. This will be my first season as a junior coach, however I am heavily invested in the sporting community at the Knox Gardens Reserve, having been involved for over 30 years. As a Life Member of the Senior Football Club and Knox Gardens Cricket Club, and a foundation member of the Junior Football Club I am very proud of our short but rich history. The Junior Club is testament to the hard work of many and the setting of standards put in place. This has made it the very well run and successful family club that it is today.
I am proud to still be actively involved, especially now that my family are enjoying the same experiences. I am married to Caroline, a primary school teacher, we have two daughters, Dyllan (8), Stevie (6) and our son Jett, who will have to learn to listen to his father this year. I do graphic design under the name Rocket Graphics, follow the bombers, own a very large music collection, love live gigs and my main man is Bruce Springsteen having seen him 10 times over the years.
I have known most of these players since Auskick and after seeing them at close hand as an assistant coach last season, I am looking forward to continuing their growth not only as footballers but as quality young people. This year will see them step up their training in many aspects of the game, learn simple disciplines, leadership, respect for one another and their opposition and embrace their competitiveness whilst maintaining the enjoyment of having a kick with their mates.
A key focus will be on the important basic skills of the game, along with furthering their knowledge of the positions on the ground and how they are played, with the emphasis on TEAM. This should help build self confidence that will hold them in good stead for later years. All players will develop at different rates but the main objective is to see improvement from week to week and session to session.
With my experience in footy and the support from my team and the wonderful parents, I am confident the under 11s, whichever way it is measured, will have a successful season.
