Beach Volleyball Rules and Regulations
Unless otherwise stated in these rules and regulations, all games will be conducted under FIVB Rules as published at
www.fivb.org
1. All teams will compete for medals in their nominated age category. Where there are too few teams entered in a category, the organisers reserve the right to combine categories together. Finals will still be played in the age category in which the team is entered.
For example, if there are insufficient 30+ & 35+ Mens teams to form a reasonable draw then a combined 30+ & 35+ Mens division will be played. All games played by all teams within the combined division will count towards final rankings. At the end of pool or round play, the top 30+ Mens teams will compete in finals and the top 35+ Mens teams will compete in separate finals.
2. All divisions will play pool play and teams will be ranked at the end of the pool play. Finals shall follow this as necessary to determine medal winners. All other placings will be determined by pool results. Finals will be played for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
3. 3. All matches will be played as single set matches. The winner shall be the first team to score 31 points with a lead of two. Each team shall be allowed to call two timeouts per 31-point match. Teams will change ends after each 10 points. The Gold Medal matches shall be best of 3 sets according to FIVB rules.
4. The FIVB restrictions on uniforms will not apply. Player numbers (1 and 2 for Pairs and 1 through 4 for Fours) are recommended.
5. Teams will be ranked in their pools or divisions by the number of games won. Where this produces a tie, point percentage will be used. This is equal to the number of points won divided by the number of points played. Where this still produces a tie, the results of matches played between the tied teams during the competition will be used to break the tie according to the procedures in this paragraph.
6. The immediate protest resolution system will be used. Where a team wishes to protest a decision of a referee (as allowed in FIVB rules), the court captain must approach the 1st Referee at the point of protest. The 1st Referee will call on the Chief Referee to resolve the protest. Where a team does not accept the Chief Referees ruling, the Technical Delegate will decide the protest. There will be no appeals. Matches cannot be protested after they are completed and no match will be replayed as a result of a protest.
7. The official match ball shall be the Molten VBOSS.
8. All games in a pool shall run following each other. There will be a 5 minute gap between games. Where a team has had duty and must then play the next match or where a team has just finished a match and must play another, they shall be entitled to 15 minutes between those games. The Official Start Time shall be the end of the break. Teams not present within 10 minutes of the Official Start Time of their match shall forfeit the match 31-0.
9. In Beach-Fours teams must follow a consistent service order through a single match.
10. In Beach-Fours, the block contact shall not count as a team hit.
